Calligraphy

This is for you Bodhi. This morning when we were visiting, before you left to return home, we talked about how ironic it is that Armando has lost his understanding of letters and words. Together we recalled that prior to his stroke he was taking the stand that letters and words were the foundation of what is going wrong in the world. We both wondered if he had simply decided to be done with them and instead to enter a world where they were no longer part of his reality.

After you left for home, Armando became very insistent on getting his desk set up in his room so he could work. It was a huge project to get everything set the way he wanted it, largely because of the communication issues. It took a couple of hours, but we got it done. Very pleased about it, he immediately set out to write in his journal. The photo below is an image of what he wrote, contrasting with other writing from just a few days ago. The distinguishable letters were written at his desk today, just shortly after we questioned whether or not he would ever want to get his writing back. He never knew about our conversation, but I think we have our answer loud and clear, and it is a resounding yes!
